I thought my students understood the process… until I looked at their assessment results. Even after explicitly teaching synthesis and practicing my Reading to Thinking 1-2-3 process, my students were still struggling with synthesis questions. So instead of simply giving them more questions, I’m stepping back and asking: What do they actually need from me next?
