The Freemont Lookout Tower in Mount Rainier National Park was built in the 1930s and is now a historic structure. It was used by firewatchers to spot smoke and lightning strikes and During World War II it was used for aerial surveillance. The tower is still fully equipped and is used occasionally for fire detection.
