Got an Xterra to 275k miles, and did radiator at purchase ~75k miles, timing chain tensioners at 100k when they started to whine, camshaft position sensors like 4 times, and rear hatch struts at 200k but they still sucked in the cold. Great write up.

Jan 21, 2022 · When the problem first occurred, I had a new camshaft sensor installed; still crank-no start. After reading up on multiple other Xterra owners having this problem, I began to find success in heating up the relays/IPDM, and it would start in the freezing cold. This winter, I ran into yet again the same issue, freezing temps, no start.

Aug 29, 2023 · I feel like if Nissan really wanted to stay relevant they'd drop the Xterra either fall 24 or mid 25. Jeep is redesigning the Cherokee (finally) and with toyogurt bringing the Land Cruiser back, Nissan would be stupid to not revive the Xterra (hopefully on frontier chassis not some unibody junk)....

Mar 12, 2020 · This kinda put the Xterra into the same class as other econo-suvs like the Ford Escape, Jeep Liberty, and Toyota Rav4. Nissan in general was considered a lower tier economy brand in an era when most people wanted feature loaded V8 4x4s like the Ford Explorer, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota 4Runner, and Hummer.

I wonder if their owners are trying to exit the business and maximize their revenues by shamelessly diluting any credibility the brand may once have had. Feb 18, 2022 · I just bought a 2006 Xterra from a dealer, looked for the bipass and some did the poor man solution of just swapping the hoses so the tranny never used the radiator (seems to be fine as long as you don't do heavy towing or hauling). Few months after I bought it I just replaced the entire radiator myself, way more work than necessary.

Apr 22, 2015 · The XTerra was smaller, cheaper, and available with a manual transmission with a rear locker. It's smaller size, better approach, departure, and breakover angles meant it would be easier to maneuver off-road.
