Nearly all of Britain has been covered by snow and ice warnings - and the Met Office is urging people to be prepared for weather chaos.

Heavy snow has caused disruption across the UK today as a cold snap continues to sweep the country over the first weekend of 2025, with an amber weather alert still in place and a fresh warning issued.

Nearly every part of the country has been issued one or several yellow weather warning by the Met Office for between Monday and Thursday, where conditions will be severe. The forecast spells a turbulent New Years’ Eve for many as the bad weather is set to travel southwards across the country between December 31 and January 1.

The snow and ice warnings may be over - but the Met Office has issued a new yellow weather warning across Devon and Cornwall - this time for 24 hours of heavy rainfall.

The UK is in the grip of a wintry spell of weather, with the Met Office issuing two fresh amber warnings for snow and ice for parts of England and Wales over the weekend. Snow has already been spotted in Conwy Valley in Wales.

The Met Office has issued two rare amber warnings for snow and ice over almost all of England this weekend. The warnings cover much of the north of England and the midlands with the Met Office saying that 3-7cm of snow was possible in large areas.

The Met Office said: "Snow will become more sporadic during Monday morning, though some further accumulations of a few centimetres are likely over the Pennines and perhaps the North York Moors. Icy stretches are likely to develop quite widely, making for some difficult travelling conditions."
