Lyft plans to add Mobileye-powered self-driving robotaxis to its ride hailing app starting in Dallas as early as next year. Why it matters: Like its main rival Uber, Lyft is embracing robotaxis without taking on the financial burden to develop the technology itself.

Lyft is scrambling to compete as Uber racks up autonomous vehicle (AV) partners. On Monday, Lyft said it partnered with Japanese conglomerate Marubeni to bring robotaxis to Dallas roads as soon as next year before expanding to “thousands of vehicles” in other cities.

GM's Cruise robotaxis have come and gone from Dallas streets without a commercial rollout here. Uber is planning a robotaxi service in Dallas later in 2025. Now Lyft has announced its own robotaxi launch in Dallas "as soon as 2026"—via a partnership with companies in Japan and Israel.

The company previously announced in November it would launch self-driving cars in Atlanta. Now, the company says its autonomous cars will be in Dallas by 2026, according to David Risher's post on X. Lyft is partnering with Marubeni and Mobileye, a leader in self-driving tech and advanced driver assistance, Risher said.
