Severe flash flooding in West Virginia over the weekend has left at least six people dead, one of whom was a 3-year-old child, according to Gov. Patrick

Areas of West Virginia around Fairmont and Morgantown saw up to 3 inches of rain on Sunday, June 15, which caused flash flooding and major damage in some areas.

Up to 3 inches of rain fell in a very short time in parts of Marion County, West Virginia on Sunday, Gov. Patrick Morrisey said during a press briefing on Monday.

An average of more than 100 people are killed by flooding in the U.S. annually and many of those happen in vehicles.

First responders rescued several people during the flash flood in the Fairmont area on Father’s Day, and two of the moments were captured on camera by bystanders.
