The damage from wildfires ravaging the Los Angeles area is horrific however it’s tallied. Neighborhoods have been erased, landmarks destroyed and lives lost.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -NFL teams and the league's charitable arm are donating a combined $5 million to support those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires, the NFL said on Friday, as the region reels from the devastating infernos.

The NFL and its teams will honor the victims and first responders affected by the Los Angeles fires when the playoffs start with wild card weekend.

Multiple wildfires, including the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire, are raging across Southern California Friday, leaving at least 10 dead and burning more than 10,000 homes across 27,000 acres, officials say.

Evacuees sought refuge and medical care at a Red Cross-run evacuation shelter at the Westwood Recreation Center in Los Angeles. Ivette Sedano sprayed water on her home, which was destroyed in the Eaton fire. In the hilly areas east and north of downtown off Sunset Boulevard, many homes were almost completely destroyed by the Palisades fire.

The two biggest fires devastating the Los Angeles area grew just slightly Friday as firefighters beat back the blazes that have killed at least 10 people, obliterated neighborhoods and left the nation's second-largest city on edge.
