South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was detained on Wednesday after a massive law enforcement operation at the presidential compound that ended a weeks-long stand-off between his bodyguards and the country's anti-corruption agency.

Investigators and police scaled makeshift barricades set up by the former president’s supporters to gain access to his compound.

South Korean investigators have asked police to execute a warrant to arrest President Yoon Suk Yeol after their initial attempt last week ended in failure following an hours-long standoff with his security team.
