Certain Tesla models have been recalled due a computer circuit board shortage causing the vehicles' rearview cameras to not display images properly.

Tesla estimates that just 2% of the recalled vehicles actually have this defect. The automaker has identified 887 warranty claims and 68 field reports related to this issue, but it told the NHTSA that it's unaware of any related collisions, injuries, or fatalities.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that a short circuit in the vehicles’ circuit boards can occur, leading to a complete loss of the rearview camera image. This non-functioning camera violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, which mandates a functional rearview camera.

The company, in an announcement, is recalling around 239,000 units associated with a fault in the rear-view camera system. The failure, Reuters cited, comes when a reverse current causes the camera not to function as expected and thereby represents a potential risk to safety that may result for drivers.

The software update addresses computers that could short out, disabling safety features like the rearview camera.
