Who is Jai Lucas? The Duke associate head coach is reportedly the focus of Miami's coaching search following Jim Larranaga's retirement:
Duke associate head coach Jai Lucas has not yet been formally offered a job by Miami but has "emerged as the focus" of the Hurricanes' search for a new head coach, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel and Jeff Borzello.
Lucas takes over a Miami program that lost longtime head coach Jim Larrañaga, who retired in December midway through the season. Former assistant Bill Courtney has worked as Miami's interim head coach since Larrañaga stepped down. Miami is in the midst of a 6-24 campaign, with a 2-17 record in ACC play that's good for last place in the conference.
The University of Miami on Thursday officially named Duke associate head coach Jai Lucas its new head men’s basketball coach. Lucas, 36, is known as an elite recruiter who helped bring some of the nation’s top recruits to Duke and, before that, Kentucky.
Lucas helped build the team at Duke, which is currently ranked No. 2 in the country.
Lucas has signed a contract to take over as Miami's head at the conclusion of the regular season, according to multiple reports. He will not coach Duke in the NCAA tournament.
