The Lebanese Minister of Culture, Dr. Ghassan Salame, said in a post on X that the late musician — who is the son of artists Fairuz and the late Assi Rahbani — had begun to reject treatment for his deteriorating health before his death.

Ziad Rahbani, a visionary Lebanese composer, playwright, pianist and political provocateur, died on Saturday, at the age of 69, according to the state-run National News Agency. The death was confirmed by a person close to Rahbani who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Legendary Lebanese singer Fairuz attended the funeral of her son, renowned composer and playwright, Ziad Rahbani, at a church in a town north of Beirut, in her first public appearance in years.
