Back in early 2020, Toyota announced plans to build its own city on the site of its former factory at the base of Mount Fuji. It was to be known as Woven City and would be a home for scientists, inventors, engineers and researchers to develop and test new tech in a real-world environment.
Toyota’s ‘Woven City’ Is Coming Together
Beginning in fall 2025, 100 residents known as “weavers” will move to the city, with that number expected to expand to 360 during phase one. Eventually, Toyota says, up to 2,000 people will reside in the city. They will primarily be employees of Toyota or Toyota’s Woven by Toyota mobility tech company.
