The garden’s design is inspired by Morgan’s Eurocentric taste and the aesthetics of the library’s interior spaces. Bluestone paths and paving outside echo patterns found on the floors inside.

In 1905, Morgan’s bibliophilic nephew recommended one of his co-workers in the library at Princeton: Belle da Costa Greene.
