Martin Truex Jr. will have to earn his way into the Daytona 500. Former NASCAR champ will drive a Toyota for Tricon Garage with Joe Gibbs' help.

Martin Truex Jr. will pause his retirement and attempt to qualify for next month's Daytona 500 with Tricon Garage, the team announced Thursday.

Truex must either post a fast speed in qualifying or secure the transfer position in his qualifying race to claim a spot in Daytona.

Martin Truex Jr. will attempt to make the field for the 2025 Daytona 500 and he'll do so in the No. 56 TRICON Garage Toyota Camry XSE. TRICON is looking to make the team's first ever start in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Martin Truex Jr. will challenge himself in a new way to start the 2025 Nascar Cup Series season. He will attempt to race the Daytona 500 with Tricon Garage.

Tricon Garage will field the No. 56 car for Truex as the NASCAR Truck Series team will enter its first Cup Series race. Truex, 43, retired from full-time racing at the end of the 2024 Cup Series season but had said that he wanted to run the upcoming Daytona 500.

Tricon Garage, which competes in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, will field a Daytona 500 entry for former Cup champion Martin Truex Jr. It marks the first Cup event for the Toyota team. Truex also will be reunited with former crew chief Cole Pearn for this effort.

Martin Truex Sr., the father of former NASCAR champion Martin Truex Jr., has died, Truex and his brother said in a statement. He was 66. “We are devastated by the loss of our father,” Martin Jr. and Ryan Truex said.
