The winter storm that moved through Florida on Tuesday into Wednesday is one for the record books, smashing the previous all-time high for snowfall in the Sunshine State.

Multiple parts of Florida are seeing snow as a winter storm makes its way across the Gulf Coast. On Monday, Jan. 20, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency ahead of dangerously cold wind chills and prolonged freezing and sub-freezing temperatures.

Temperatures are dipping into the 30s this week, and while parts of Florida are expected to get snow, FOX 13 meteorologists say the Bay Area won’t see any snow or ice. However, that wasn’t the case in 1977.

At least 6 inches of snow has been reported in parts of the Florida panhandle, surpassing the record of 4 inches set in 1954. The record snowfall comes as a significant winter storm is sweeping across parts of the Gulf Coast, including the Florida Panhandle.

A rare winter storm warning is in effect across North Florida and the Panhandle as bitter cold temperatures, along with snow, are expected to arrive. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued a state of emergency Sunday ahead of what some forecasters have said has the potential to be one of the worst storms in Gulf Coast history.
