Commuters are once again facing a fresh set of delays after last night's snowfall. The A555 Manchester Airport relief road, A533 Southern Expressway in Runcorn, Cheshire, and the A57 Snake Pass are among the larger routes to have been closed.

Parts of north-west England and northern Wales have seen severe flooding after heavy downpours, with local officials declaring a "major incident".

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across parts of Devon and Cornwall. The first warning for snow and ice warning begins at 17:00 GMT and ends at 10:00 GMT on Tuesday.

As the clean-up from New Year's Day floods continue leaders say "serious questions" must be asked.

Weather warnings for snow and ice are in force across much of the UK after severe flooding and snow caused travel disruption and school closures.
