With feels-like temperatures threatening to soar to 110 degrees, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties. The advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

▪ The National Weather Service in Miami will issue a heat advisory if the heat index is 105 degrees for at least a couple of hours. Before 2023, the weather service issued a heat advisory when the heat index hit 108 degrees.

Miami had 60 days last year when the heat index was above 110 degrees F. This is considered extremely dangerous to people who do not have access to air conditioning and other ways to stay cooler than the outside temperature Heat is also a major cause of ER admissions during the hottest months.
