It took Google years to make Google Assistant as useful as it was at its peak, and Gemini is looking to take its place. However, it hasn’t been a graceful transition. Gemini still can’t perform several of the tasks that Google Assistant can,

Android users enrolled in the Google Home Public Preview program can now control smart home devices using natural language commands in the Gemini app. Help Me Create will also be available later this year to US users. It will let users create smart home automation by describing actions in simple language.

The search giant previously announced that its Google Home would be getting smarter with AI, and the day is here.

The extension in Gemini doesn’t support all smart devices, however. As Google notes, it will link you to the Google Home app for controls related to security devices, including cameras, locks, gates, and doors. It also can’t execute routines.

Gemini now powers a new Google Home tool, “Help Me Create,” simplifying home automation. Instead of navigating complex menus, you can set up routines by describing them in plain language.  For instance,
