Opinion: California must create climate-resilient state parks, protect accessibility
California’s leaders need to make key decisions in 2026 to protect and support our state parks.
Gov. Gavin Newsom framed the move as a rebuke to President Trump, who recently cut the holiday from the list of free-entry days at U.S. national parks.
Free access to all California state parks located in San Diego County and the rest of the state will be available on Monday in recognition of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
The move comes as a direct counter-policy to the Trump administration, which recently canceled the long-standing tradition of free entry to national parks for the civil rights holiday.
