Louisiana House approves congressional redistricting to benefit Republicans. Senate to vote next
The latest version of SB121 is now on its way back to the senate after securing enough votes to pass in the House.
Louisiana lawmakers sent SB 121 back to the state Senate after the House approved a new congressional map in a 66-35 vote with changes.
Gov. Jeff Landry (R) issued an order pausing next month’s primaries until lawmakers can approve a new map, which could help the GOP gain one or two seats in the state this fall.
As SB 121 heads back to the Senate, the ACLU of Louisiana said "this fight is just getting started," after the bill passed through the House on Thursday, May 28.
The State Senate is expected to vote on the amended map on Friday.
