Cryptocurrency markets fell as global equities and precious metals sold off, while bitcoin liquidations exacerbated downside moves.

The bitcoin price has plummeted under the closely-watched $80,000 per bitcoin level, sparking fears that a full-blown bitcoin and crypto crash could be looming.

Bitcoin steadied after falling close to the lowest level since Donald Trump’s return to the White House, as some analysts said the weekend’s steep selloff has left crypto markets poised for a rebound.

The mean closing price of BTC over the past 200 weeks is a widely used long-term momentum indicator and a baseline for the traditional-four year bitcoin cycle. It has marked a market bottom in every previous cycle, and is currently at $57,926.

It is one of the largest Bitcoin miners in the world.

Strategy (MSTR) bought 855 bitcoin for about $75.3 million at an average price near $88,000 just days before BTC’s weekend drop below $75,000.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 515.19 points, or 1.05%, closing at 49,407.66, while the S&P 500 was up 0.54% and settled at 6,976.44. The Nasdaq Composite also gained 0.56% and ended at 23,592.11.

“When interest rates increase, fixed-income assets lose value, and investors, knowing that interest rates are easier to predict and may continue to increase, instead of holding a ‘fixed-income’ asset that will lose value in the short term, they cut losses and invest in riskier assets, like Bitcoin,” he said in a recent analysis.
