Hillsborough-based Big Cat Rescue, which became famous in 2020 thanks to the Netflix documentary series “Tiger King,” sold a portion of its land to a Florida developer for $19.5 million last month, according to a deed of the sale.

In preprepation to sell the Big Cat Rescue property near Citrus Park Mall, owners Howard and Carole Baskin transferred their animals to Turpentine Creek in 2023.

A portion of Big Cat Rescue’s Tampa-area property, which recently sold, could be redeveloped as about 300 townhomes, reports said.
