The Pacific hurricane season has been busy, with nine named storms and 3-soon-to-be-4 hurricanes, but August is a big month for Atlantic storms.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Tropical Storm Gil was expected to become a hurricane in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Friday but wasn’t expected to threaten land, forecasters said. The Miami-based U.S. National Hurricane Center said the storm is about 870 miles (1,400 kilometers) southwest of the Baja California peninsula of Mexico.

Tropical Storm Gil strengthened into a hurricane and continued to move forward in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Saturday, August 2, ABC News reported. Forecasters have said that the hurricane is not predicted to threaten land and could decrease in strength over the weekend.
