Residents in the 901 know the second Saturday in Memphis is for the Southern Heritage Classic, but there is a slight bit of concern as TSU releases its schedule.

One of the city’s most beloved traditions faces some serious uncertainty. Tennessee State University announced its 2025 football schedule and the Southern Heritage Classic is not on it.

Following the announcement that Tennessee State University band director Dr. Reginald McDonald has been placed on administrative leave, it is still unclear if Tennessee State will make an appearance in the Southern Heritage Classic.

The Southern Heritage Classic has never had a game that didn’t include Tennessee State. The 2025 Classic could be the first.

The Tennessee State Tigers released their 2025 football schedule — and the Southern Heritage Classic is not listed. For the last two years, TSU and the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff have faced off in Memphis.
