A tsunami advisory has been canceled for Oregon and Washington following a strong earthquake off the coast of Russia.

Authorities said tsunami waves would reach Oregon and warned coastal residents to avoid shorelines but said it was "not a major tsunami."

Oregon, Washington, and California are under a tsunami watch after an 8.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Russia.
