There's a new update about American Primeval season 2 on Netflix that is rather surprising to hear for fans of the show.

With American Primeval Season 1 winding up recently, many are eager to know whether a Season 2 is planned. Created by Mark L. Smith, the Western series follows a mother and son, who leave behind the past and start anew with a new family.

Mark L. Smith’s American Primeval is a great new addition to the Western genre, an honest and brutal portrayal of what life was like in the American West. However, after one season, American Primeval won’t return for a second season. Here’s why.

The final battles of American Primeval leave a few of our main characters standing at the end, meaning Betty Gilpin, Preston Mota, and Shawnee Pourier could all return for a second season. Shea Whigham as Brigham Young could also reprise his role if the series is renewed.

American Primeval has had a lot of time in the sun since its debut on January 9, spending most of the time since then at #1 on Netflix. At least in the US. Now, it’s been booted down to #2 for the second time, and not just by a night of WWE RAW.

Right now there's been no word on a second series of the show. American Primeval is listed as a "limited series" which would indicate it could only get a one season run. However, the series director and executive producer Peter Berg has revealed he is keen for the show to return, on one condition.

Though American Primeval was only pitched as limited series, fans are already asking for season 2. Much like other limited series Westerns such as 1883, there are not many characters who survive all six episodes of American Primeval.

We don’t know yet! Netflix has yet to announce plans for a second season of American Primeval, but director and EP Peter Berg told Decider, he’s game — with a couple of caveats.
