The MTA has approved a fare increase for Metro-North trips to and from Connecticut. The first 5% fare increase, determined by the Connecticut Department of Transportation, will go into effect in September.

The Metropolitan Transit Authority Board on Wednesday unanimously approved a 10 percent fare increase for Connecticut Metro-North riders, despite public opposition and consistently increased ridership.

Metro-North and Long Island Railroad customers could face a 4.4% bump on train tickets while tolls on various city bridges and tunnels may also see an increase, MTA officials said at the meeting. Controversial congestion pricing fees though are expected to remain the same at a cool $9 during peak hours.
