An adrift Democratic Party received a much-needed jolt of energy this week when Democratic senator Cory Booker took to the Senate floor to speak in protest of the Trump administration’s policies, vowing to hold it for as long as he was physically able.

To physically prepare for the feat, Booker used “a lot of tactics,” he said, including fasting and curbing water intake in the days before to make sure he could stand for so long and wouldn’t have to take a bathroom break.

After breaking the Senate record for longest floor speech, Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., gave an innocuous answer about whether he sees himself as the Democratic Party’s next leader.
