Minnesota purchased a mass notification system several years ago to alert legislators about emergencies, but state leaders didn’t use it on the morning of June 14 when an assassin targeted politicians in the suburbs of Minneapolis.

Right now, anyone can enter the Minnesota Capitol building during normal business hours. But as of Wednesday, there are fewer doors you can enter.

Capitol security officers have permanently locked 10 doors to the public Wednesday as part of their effort to protect state employees and visitors to the Capitol complex. People can still access the building through four doors on the south side.
